Die Vespa V50 wurde von 1963 bis in die 1990er Jahre von Piaggio hergestellt und über vier Millionen Mal verkauft. Die 50 cm³ Vespas waren in Italien steuerfrei und durften ohne Führerschein und ohne Kennzeichen von Jugendlichen ab 14 Jahren gefahren werden. Sie wurde in Italien mit dem Slogan „Jung, modern und… ohne Papiere“ vermarktet. In Italien durften sie allerdings nicht zu zweit gefahren werden und wurden daher mit einer Monositzbank ausgestattet. Die Vespa 50 war der letzte von Corradino D’Ascanio entworfene Roller und die 50ccm wurde zu einem Markenzeichen von Vespa.
